The summer is almost over...

Well, we had a great time camping last weekend with my sister, Andy. We went to Warren Dunes on Lake Michigan. Actually, it was quite an adventure, and I missed most of the exciting stuff! Andy took Lizzie and Sarah on Wednesday. They were using my GIGANTOR tent, which Andy had never put up before. Some neighborly camper guys volunteered to help them put it up, and of course didn't get it quite right. But they made a valiant attempt. :) So with the tent a little saggy, they settled down, but before too long, the rain came. That would have been okay, but then came the tornado warning. They had to go seek shelter in the shower of the main campground and wait it out. They were safe and very wet! They went back to the tent to try to sleep. Sometime, Lizzie became sick. Thankfully, she is old enough to know when she's going to be sick, but it made for a long, rough night for all of them. The plan was for Dana, Cameron, Mary and myself to join them on Thursday. By the time we got there, the rain had stopped, but Lizzie was still very sick, so the hero of the story, Troy, drove from Lansing (2 1/2 hours) and came and took her home with him. He had to miss work on Friday, but it all worked out okay. So we continued our camping trip without Lizzie. :( We had a nice time on the beach, despite the wind and choppy water. The kids had a great time swimming with their Auntie and playing in the sand. We had fun cooking, making some standard camping food, like hot dogs, s'mores, and jiffy pop, and some more unusual stuff, like fajitas and homemade ice cream in a bag. Although we missed Troy and Lizzie, we had a good time. It rained some on the last night, but it stopped in the morning. We waited for things to dry before we began to pack up, but then it started to rain again, so we went home soaking wet, with lots of soggy gear. It's not camping in Michigan if it doesn't rain, after all!
